Ehad Zendah, a six year old Palestinian patient, arrives Pakistan

With the beginning of Mision Gaza phase II our team of doctors has been continuosly trying various channels to bring in those Gaza patients who could not be properly treated there in Egypt. Dr Amer Aziz fully justifying his role as a Mission leader, talking to our corespondent disclosed the hurdles he has been facing in his task to provide Gazans with some relief.

Yesterday we have succeeded to bring in first Palestinian patient Ehad Zendah, a six year old child suffering from recurrent pelvic tumor teratoma. Ehad has been operated by a team of doctors comprising of Dr.Abdul Majeed Chaudhry, Dr.Abdul Sattar Memon, Dr.Nadeem and Professor Tahir. The lump has been removed and sent for biopsy (a medical test) to decide on further treatment.

When Ehad and his mother Mrs Basma Zendah arrived Lahore International Airport at 6.00a.m on Wednesday, they were immediately taken to Surgimed hospital, Lahore for treatment. After surgery the mother and the child were shifted to VIP room no 8 of the hospital. As Mrs Zendah can speak and understand Arabic only, she has been provided with a ward woman and a medical student with well knowledge of Arabic to accompany her.

Ehad could hardly get clearance to leave Egypt and there are two more patients waiting in Gaza to get to Pakistan, one needs a kidney transplant whereas the other has burnt both her eyes in the cruel massacre and needs a corneal surgery. But their arrival appears to be a hard task, however Dr.Aziz is quite determined.

Dr. Aziz met the six year old victim in Cairo during  Mission Gaza phase I, where Egyptian doctors prescribed him colostomy surgery (i.e. a serious surgical process whereby a portion of large intestine is brought out through abdominal wall for the passage of body waste). Our team offered him better and less serious surgery in Pakistan and with this commitment they have been constantly contacting Egyptian authorities, Pakistan embassy in Cairo and Foreign office in Islamabad.

Owing to responsible handling of the matter by Pakistan embassy in Cairo and our Foreign Office at last on March 4, 2009 Ehad Zendah leaving his father with two siblings in Gaza, reached Pakistan along with his mother from Cairo.
